Materials Testing Supports Runners from Head to Toe

Imagine you’re training for a marathon and you get up early every morning to run. Your headlamp must work, your shoes need to hold up, and your jersey needs to keep you cool. ZwickRoell supports runners from head to toe with solutions for materials testing in the sports industry.

We sat down with two of our runners to find out more about why they run and how they support our annual challenge, ZwickRoell Runs the World. To sign up for our warm-up challenge in North America prior to ZwickRoell Runs the World, contact us.

Q: Why do you run?

A: I enjoy running because it is a great stress reliever, and it improves my conditioning for my favorite sport, basketball. Running has also been very beneficial in helping me lose weight.

Q: What is your favorite run?

A: My favorite run would have to be the Savage Race. It’s a 4-6 mile race, with 25 obstacles. They hold the race in 10 different cities in the US throughout the year. It’s very tough, but it’s an exciting event.

Q: Why do you participate in ZwickRoell Runs the World?

A: It’s a great way to keep in shape, while competitively engaging with colleagues. The charitable donation that is given out after we reach our goal is also motivating.

Q: What are your goals for 2020’s ZwickRoell Runs the World?

A: Last year I hit 117 miles. This year I would like to surpass that and reach 125 miles.

Melanie Hoffman is an Application Engineer at Zwick Roell in North America. She has been running for over 10 years.

Q: Why do you run?

A: I enjoy running because it keeps me both mentally and physically fit. It’s a way to tune out for a a little while, listen to music or a podcast, and chew on problems.

Q: What is your favorite run?

A: I love the Peachtree Road Race in Atlanta. It’s a 10K held on the 4th of July. Despite the hills and humidity it’s really fun because it follows Peachtree Street from Buckhead to Midtown Atlanta and spectators are cheering the entire way. There are about 60,000 runners and many more volunteers. It’s awesome seeing so many Atlantans participating.

Q: Why do you participate in ZwickRoell Runs the World?

A: I run all year long but enjoy ZwickRoell Runs the World because it’s an international event and donates to deserving causes all over the world. It’s fun to watch the leaderboard and cheer on all of my international colleagues.

Q: What are your goals for 2020’s ZwickRoell Runs the World?

A: I try to stay consistent and run 3-4 miles 5 times a week, with a long run on the weekend. ZwickRoell Runs the World takes place in late summer, so I mostly try to maintain my fitness and stay cool.
