  • Connections between the load cell and the components attached to the system, together with the test fixtures, should be as rigid and free of play as possible. This is because load cells frequently have to measure forces which change rapidly.
  • The smaller the test arrangement and therefore the lower the height, the fewer lever-arm effects will arise. Adapter units and extensions in particular generate undesirable lever-arm effects.
  • Lever arms and eccentricities should be avoided as far as possible in order to minimize bending moments. The further away from the test axis the force application point is, the greater is the influence of the bending moments.
  • Test fixtures/specimen grips and specimen must be aligned exactly to the test axis to enable controlled force application and distribution in the specimen to allow reliable, informative test results to be obtained.
    Alternatively, swiveling or spherical connections can be used to allow test fixtures to self-align and adapt to the specimen.
  • If several load cells are in use, or in the event of frequent load cell changes, we recommend use of the Connect 2nd Load Cell option.
    Alignment to the test axis is better via the plug-in system than via the usual threaded mounting, while reference positions for different test arrangements are also re-attained automatically. With the threaded fastening the reference positions change according to the number of turns. In addition, installation and removal are considerably easier with the plug-in system, while unnecessary strain on the load-cell cables is avoided.
  • Protect the load cell against overload by adjusting the force thresholds in line with the test sequence. The testing system switches off automatically if these force thresholds are reached.
    They can be set either directly on the testing system as hardware limit switches or in the testing software as software limit switches. In the case of tests in which set force-thresholds are not sufficient to exclude the risk of damage to the load cell, we recommend overload protection.
  • The ambient temperature must be kept broadly constant during the test to avoid the measurement signal being influenced by temperature fluctuations.

Xforce load cells are ideal for tensile tests, compression tests, and flexure tests as well as for cyclic tests with zero crossing.

Before dispatch each load cell is calibrated with the testing system plus drive and the measurement and control electronics as a complete system. This is recorded in the accompanying factory calibration certificate.

  • The large measurement range frequently eliminates the need to purchase a second load cell, saving the costs of acquisition and annual calibration.
  • Even with high pre-loads due to heavy test fixtures or specimen grips, virtually the entire load-cell measurement-range remains available. The load cell can still be used to full nominal capacity with fixture weights amounting to 45 % of nominal force.

  • Xforce HP and Xforce K load cells feature very high accuracy.
  • Used in conjunction with testControl II electronics, Xforce HP and Xforce K (from 200 N) load cells typically offer significantly better linearity (= relative display deviation) than required by ISO 7500.
  • The maximum display deviation is less than 1% of the measured value from as low as 0.1% of the load cell nominal capacity; from 0.4% of nominal capacity it is 0.25% of the measured value.

  • Xforce load cells are very robust and can withstand loads up to 300% of nominal capacity without mechanical failure and up to 150% without zero-point shift. This means that overload protection such as pre-loaded springs, mechanical stops or guiders to absorb transverse forces is generally unnecessary.
  • The crosshead travel range can be restricted via software and hardware limit stops, protecting load cells and text fixtures.
  • Force limits can be set in testXpert III to switch off the testing system automatically, protecting the load cell.

  • If several load cells are to be used, or in the event of frequent load cell changes, we recommend the 'Connection via Mounting Stud' option.
  • Saves time and increases flexibility.
  • Avoids unnecessary strain on the load cell cable during screwing in and unscrewing.
  • The plug-in system delivers better alignment to the test axis than the usual threaded mounting.
  • Reference positions for different test arrangements are automatically re-attained (with a threaded mounting, reference positions change according to the number of turns screwed in).

In this version the spring element is a bending ring with a spiral strain-gage applied to its entire surface top and bottom.

The bending ring is connected to the hub and outer ring via circumferential elastic joints. When forces are transmitted to the load cell the bending ring deforms and its upper circumference increases whilst the lower circumference decreases, or vice versa. This deformation is recorded by spiral strain gages developed specifically for this load cell.

As the strain gages act uniformly over the entire surface of the bending ring, the load cell has no preferred direction.

This device is used for regular checks on load cells up to 500 N by means of comparison values which have been measured following recalibration / adjustment. The device consists of two reference standards (master/slave).

Routine checking is carried out with the slave device. A check is only made with the master device if deviations from the specified tolerance range are identified.

機能の説明

  • During tests in the compression direction, Xforce HP load cells are safeguarded by mechanical overload protection and an integrated load bypass unit.
  • In the case of the mechanical overload protection a mechanical stop locks at or above the load-cell nominal force, preventing damage to the load cell due to overload.
  • The integrated load bypass unit protects the entire test arrangement.
    From a defined load threshold (starting from the maximum capacity of the load cell) the existing load is transferred to several springs, allowing overtravel of the entire test assembly and thereby preventing an increase in force in the load cell which would result in overload or even destruction.
