Creep Fatigue Behaviour of Austenitic Stainless Steel Type 316H

The evolution of creep damage in structural components in power generation stations operating at elevated temperature can be significantly affected by the prior plastic loading. This plastic deformation can be induced because of thermal loads generated by starting up and shutting down of the plant. Therefore, it is crucial to understand the interaction between creep and plasticity for robust life assessment procedure for high temperature plants.

Dr. Mehdi Mokhtarishirazabad received his PhD in application of digital image correlation in fracture mechanics from the University of Malaga in Spain. He then moved to the UK to study the fracture of austenitic stainless steels manufactured by laser and electron beam welding, as a Research Associate in the University of Bristol. He is currently the technical specialist in the solid mechanics research group with a research interest in mechanical behaviour of metallic materials at elevated temperature.
