Training Course - An Introduction to Hydraulics

Date: 6-7th September 2022
Venue: British Fluid Power Association, Chipping Norton, Oxon

Hydraulic equipment can be thought of as daunting, or more challenging than electromechanical systems, but this doesn’t need to be the case and if handled correctly, can greatly enhance the capabilities of your testing laboratory.

This two-day course covers a comprehensive introduction to hydraulics and hydraulic equipment, including best practices and safe operation. It is suitable for personnel who are completely new to hydraulics, as well as veterans who simply wish to have a refresher.

Course objectives

  • Provide a core understanding of hydraulics & safety
  • Familiarise participants with fluid power technologies such as pump flow, cylinder speed, and forces
  • Introduce basic hydraulic theory in a practical way, physically handling core hydraulic components
  • Introduce basic principles of hydro-mechanics, hydro-statics, and hydro-kinetics
  • Gain a core glossary of terms used within hydraulics

Who should attend this course?

  • Anyone new to working with or around hydraulic equipment
  • Anyone thinking of purchasing hydraulic test equipment
  • Anyone working on projects that utilise hydraulic equipment
  • Anyone managing a laboratory employing hydraulic equipment
  • Anyone seeking to refresh their knowledge of hydraulic equipment

Course content

  • Why hydraulics?
  • Basic principles of hydro-mechanics, hydro-statics and hydro-kinetics
  • Hydraulic circuits and symbols
  • Hydraulic fluids, pumps, cylinders
  • Accumulators and accumulator applications
  • Valves: Non-return, Directional, Pressure and Flow control valves, including the servo-valve
  • Filters and filtration technology
