Determining the reduction of area Z

In tensile tests on ductile materials, localized necking occurs after the tensile strength is reached. The material ultimately also breaks in this area. The largest change in cross-sectional area in relation to the initial cross-section So is referred to as the reduction of area Z. The reduction of area Z value is indicated as a percentage.
