Hardness Testing in Aviation

Process monitoring and quality control through hardness testing

For the characterization of raw material and component properties, technological data must be acquired. In order to do this, the aviation industry supplier uses hardness testing, among others. The results obtained from hardness tests expand the material properties know-how along the value chain. This allows for control of the production processes and, if necessary, for the production strategy to be adjusted; this in turn leads to the reduction of scraps, thus ensuring the economic sustainability of the products. In addition to production monitoring and quality control of manufactured components, hardness testing is also very important when developing new products in order to obtain information about material properties and thereby set the correct production parameters.

DuraScan 20 G5 in use at RO-RA

For hardness testing, RO-RA uses a ZwickRoell DuraScan 20 G5 in a standard load range of 0.01g up to 62.5kg. The hardness testing machine can be used for micro Vickers tests as well as for Brinell tests on lightweight components. With the standard xCHANGE interface, data can be transmitted to our customer’s data system at any time.
