Indian Mechanical Engineering Company Uses ZwickRoell for Materials Testing

Larsen & Toubro (L&T) is the largest mechanical engineering and construction company in India. The company employs 45,000 people in its production facilities and offices. To expand the testing capacities at the Hazira location, the company opted for a Z330 red universal testing machine  from ZwickRoell.

Materials testing is a critical component of the quality control system at L&T and is particularly crucial for the nuclear and defense industry. To further improve the testing options in the testing laboratory at the Hazira location, the company opted for a Z330 red universal testing machine  from ZwickRoell.

The testing machine is primarily used for tensile tests on metallic flat and round specimens. The machine is equipped with pneumatic grips and an automatic MakroXtens II extensometer. The intelligent MakroXtens II extensometer is already calibrated from a measurement travel of 20 µm in class 0.5 and can be used until specimen break. The extensometer fulfills the strict test requirements of strain rate control tests to ISO 6892-1 and ASTM E 8. The testing machine is ideally suited for production-related tests as well as R&D activities. Avinash Pandey, Project Manager at L&T, describes the advantages of the new testing machine.

“The testing machine supplied by ZwickRoell has a number of special features in regards to the testing of steel, such as correct alignment while testing flat specimens, recording of uniform plastic strain and uniform total strain as part of the tensile properties, determination of the modulus of elasticity and many more.”
