Tensile testing of plastics according to ISO 527 — Tips and tricks for efficient testing

In this webinar, you will learn

  • How the ISO 527 family of standards is structured and what current requirements are specified, particularly in ISO 527-1 and ISO 527-2.
  • Which specimen geometries and gauge lengths are relevant, and how to correctly determine the specimen cross-sectional area.
  • What effect the alignment, clamping, and preloading of the specimen have on the accuracy and reproducibility of your test results.
  • Which test speeds and test procedures must be followed for the modulus measurement and the remainder of the tensile test.
  • How to determine Young's modulus and strain in accordance with standards and when to use an extensometer or crosshead displacement for strain measurement.
  • Which requirements apply to force and strain measurement as well as calibration, and which tactile and optical extensometers are suitable for different plastics and strain ranges.

Benefits

  • Test in accordance with standards: Effectively implement the requirements of ISO 527.
  • Avoid measurement errors:Identify and reduce common sources of error.
  • Achieve reliable results: Improve accuracy, repeatability, traceability, and reproducibility.
  • Choose the write test setup: Select the appropriate specimen grips and extensometers.

Target group

  • Test engineers and test technicians
  • Testing laboratory and quality assurance personnel
  • Development and materials engineers
