For the Safety of our Youngest

The Austrian Agency for Health and Food Safety GmbH (AGES) is an Austrian organization, which among many other tasks, is also dedicated to the testing of toys. The quality of toys must meet the highest standards and may not present any health risks. Comprehensive testing is therefore essential.

Toy Safety Directive 2009/48/EC

Toys must meet various guidelines and requirements, including the physical and mechanical requirements that are established in the Toy Safety Directive 2009/48/EC. This particularly applies to toys for ages 3 and under, since small parts that could be swallowed or inhaled may not detach from the toy itself.

Testing toys with the zwickiLine

To be able to guarantee conformance with this requirement, standard-compliant testing of a wide range of applications is of fundamental importance. The range of tests extends from tensile testing with various forces on detachable small parts such as eyes on plush toys and detachable mouth pieces on flutes and whistles, to testing the seam strength of stuffed plush toys, and compression tests to determine the seal tightness of liquid-filled toys. Another test is the biting resistance of soothers (pacifiers) to EN 1400.For these purposes, AGES uses the zwickiLine universal testing machine.

Why the zwickiLine?

The zwickiLine is ideal for the requirements set forth for the testing of toys. This machine not only allows for fast and easy changes between individual test tasks, the simple operation and powerful drive of the zwickiLine are also customer-favorite features. But that is not all: especially when it comes to testing toys, the machine can be retrofitted according to customer requests so that it can be precisely implemented according to individual test requirements.
