ISO 12625-4 Tensile test on tissues in dry state
Tensile tests on tissues provide information on a range of characteristic values including: stiffness, modulus, tensile strength, tear length and energy absorption. Tensile tests on tissues in a dry state are performed to ISO 12625-4.
Determination of the wet tensile strength of tissue paper is described in part 5 in ISO 12625.
ZwickRoell test equipment for the tissue tensile test can also be used to perform tensile tests on paper. These are described in the ISO 1924, ASTM D828 and Tappi T494 standards.

Tissue tensile test to ISO 12625-4 with ZwickRoell
Due to the low strengths, it is sufficient to carry out tissue tensile tests using a single-column universal testing machine from the zwickiLine series.
Pneumatic specimen grips are available as a clamping solution. The pneumatic gripping pressure can be easily adjusted to prevent specimen damage and slippage. Alternatively, the ZwickRoell screw grips, which can also be adjusted manually with precision, are suitable.
Our testXpert testing software is user-friendly and customizable. It provides all the necessary calculations and statistics for tissue testing.
In many cases the only result to be determined is the tear strength or tear length, superfluous results can be hidden by the software. The ZwickRoell testing software accomplishes this by means of two functional levels:
- Standard test programs (to EN ISO 12625-4) contain only test sequences and results which are stipulated in test standards.
- Changing to Master functionality provides access to all the program's capabilities, ensuring the necessary functional scope for future tests.
If required, change in length and width can be measured directly with videoXtens.
