The hole expansion test is a test method applied in the metalworking industry and is used to determine the ductility of the edges on punched sheet metal.
Particularly in the case of high strength steels, forming technology presents new challenges due to the formation of edge cracks. Shearing reduces the forming capacity of the edge. In order to secure manufacturing processes, characteristic values for edge crack sensitivity are therefore determined using the hole expansion test.
Hole expansion tests are described in various standards. Here you will find an overview of the current standards and tests.
