ZwickRoell develops and manufactures a wide range of testing systems for materials and component testing in Ulm. At our main location, our development, application technology, manufacturing, assembly, and software development teams work closely together – covering everything from standard machines to automated testing systems and custom solutions.

 

Testing systems for standard applications and specific customer requirements

At the Ulm location, innovative testing systems are being developed for a wide range of static and dynamic test tasks. The development team and the application test laboratory work closely together: Interdisciplinary teams from mechanics, electronics, software, and application technology develop, test, and optimize test methods under real-world conditions. Because of the close proximity of development, laboratory, assembly, and service, findings from customer projects and tests flow directly into product development.

The portfolio spans from universal testing machines for tensile, compression, and flexure tests to high capacity, automation and specialized testing systems. It is supplemented by comprehensive accessories including high performance software for software for test sequences and evaluations according to standards. This is how we create tailored testing solutions that are precisely aligned with materials, standards, and individual requirements.

Manufacturing – Quality ensured through extensive in-house production and quick coordination

Manufacturing in Ulm is a key component of ZwickRoell's industrial value creation. With around 4,000 m² of production area and approximately 16,000 different components produced annually, this demonstrates the scope of our in-house production. This includes machining, welding, painting, pre-assembly and final assembly, as well as the production of key machine components.

Our high level of in-house production enables quick coordination, flexible adjustments, and reliable quality assurance – especially for custom solutions and durable testing systems.

 

Assembly – tested, calibrated, and ready for use

During assembly, components, machines, and testing systems are built, inspected, and calibrated according to standardized quality processes. This results in both series machines and complex custom systems and automation solutions.

Before delivery, each machine undergoes mechanical, electronic, and software testing. Defined test plans and documented test steps ensure that the test system arrives at the customer's site ready for use.

For custom-designed solutions, the assembly, development, application technology, and software teams work closely together – from commissioning to the approval of complex test arrangements.

 

Software development – testing software for safe processes and reliable results

Testing software is a core component of every ZwickRoell testing solution. In Ulm, the software team continues to develop testXpert, tailoring it to machines, testing procedures, standards, and user requirements.

testXpert supports users in:

  • Compliant performance of tests
  • Operating machines safely
  • Structured acquisition and evaluation of measurement data
  • Reproducible test sequences
  • Integration into existing laboratory and data processes

Additional functions for laboratory and data management, condition monitoring and digital services help users manage testing processes more efficiently, document results in a traceable way, and better integrate test data into existing laboratory and quality systems.
