Testing of Peel and Blister Packaging and Plastic Packaging Material

The ability to peel off dimensionally stable or rigid packaging depends on material combinations, machine parameters, and on sealed seam and tear-off geometries. The most important value is the cracking force, but the regularity of the sealing is also significant. Peel forces can be tested with a special peel test kit.

Peel test on blister packaging

The peel test kit is designed to test the sealed seams of packaging by peeling the lid or sealing material from dimensionally stable or rigid packaging. It has a variable gripping unit to fix the blister packaging. During the test, up to 90% of the lid is peeled off. The screw clamp has a maximum opening width of 2 mm and is suitable for gripping forces up to 300 N.

Test kit for peel test of primary packaging for contact lenses

Testing of sealed seams of peelable packaging by peeling off the lid or sealing material from dimensionally stable or rigid packaging (for example, single blister packs for contact lenses). The tensile strength of the adhesive bond between the film and the plastic blisters is measured.

The test kit is equipped with holding-down devices to hold the film in position. A spring clamp is used to peel off the sealing material,
where up to 90% of the lid is peeled off.

Testing of seal strength

A tensile test is performed on 15-mm wide strips with a peel angle of 90°. This seal must demonstrate a certain stiffness, depending on the type of packaging material used.

Push-out tests on blister packaging

This test kit tests the push-out force of blister contents such as tablets and other medical products. Pushed-out remains fall out of the pack via the ejection chute in the compression platen. A laser pointer illuminates the die position above the specimen before the push-out test, facilitating specimen alignment. The spherical laser pointer die can also be used for positioning specimens from other push-out tests. The stainless steel compression die is designed for a maximum force of 30 N.

Compression test kit for the testing of tablets

The test kit consists of identical upper and lower specimen grips. The tablet is placed on the test surface and held by the lateral, compression spring-loaded clamping sheet. The compression test kit comes in two versions for a maximum of 100N and 2.5 kN (for entericcoated tablets).
