ZwickRoell Equips University in Pakistan with Testing Equipment

The textile industry is one of the most important in Pakistan— a fact reinforced by the presence of the country’s National Textile University (NTU). To fulfill the needs for development in the field of technical textiles and composites, NTU founded the National Center for Composites Materials (NCCM), and chose ZwickRoell as their testing technology partner.

With the establishment of the NCCM, research possibilities for technical textiles and composites at NTU will continue to advance. At the heart of the institution is the test lab with various testing systems for the mechanical characterization of composites materials. Fibers, one of the components embedded in the material matrix of fiber-reinforced composites, support the formation of a fiber-matrix system. These fibers can be specified to one or more orientations and exhibit preferential direction.

Tests in the field of composites are extremely diverse, which is why NTU chose the AllroundLine testing machine (Fmax 100 kN). Because of its modular construction, test fixtures can be quickly changed allowing for tensile, compression and flexure tests with a single machine. Special testing such as CAI (compression after impact) can also be performed.

The HIT230F drop weight tester and HIT25P pendulum impact tester are available for drop weight and impact testing, and allow all current standards-based tests to be carried out. As is the case for the AllroundLine testing machine, operation of these instruments is performed through the testXpert testing software, requiring students to learn only one software program.

For fatigue testing, the HC25 Compact servohydraulic testing machine is implemented. With the hydraulic power pack integrated in the base of the testing machine, no additional servohydraulic infrastructure is required in the lab.

NTU also required a Hardness testing instrument capable of testing high performance composites, they selected the Universal Rockwell hardness tester ZHR8150CLK due to it’s ability to test on a wide range of materials and to numerous ISO and ASTM standards. The scope of this instrument gave them confidence in reliable test results, ease of operator use and the flexibility to test on various scales.

“Next to extensive experience in the field of composites testing, excellent local service and support contributed to our decision to go with ZwickRoell,” said NTU’s Dr. Yasir Nawab.
