Diesel Systems division at Bosch expands characterization of materials with innovative hardness testing technology from ZwickRoell

For over 125 years the name 'Bosch' has been associated with forward-looking technology and trailblazing inventions that have made history. Bosch does business all over the world Its operations are divided into four business sectors: Mobility Solutions, Industrial Technology, Consumer Goods, and Energy and Building Technology. The Bosch Group’s strategic goal is to deliver innovations for connected life. Bosch improves quality of life worldwide with products and services that are innovative and spark enthusiasm. In short, Bosch creates technology that is 'Invented for life'.1

The Diesel Systems division at Bosch develops, manufactures and applies systems which contribute toward making vehicles that are cleaner, more economical and more powerful. At the same time, Bosch systems serve as the basis for making the diesel engine a more sporting and enjoyable power plant. As the world's leading manufacturer of diesel injection systems, Bosch has the ideal system for every customer and every application.2

To enable more accurate recording of mechanical characteristics, Robert Bosch GmbH has added a ZwickRoell hardness tester to the testing technology line-up at its main diesel development site. The hardness tester can be used for instrumented indentation tests to EN ISO 14577, as well as classical Vickers and Rockwell hardness tests

Characterization of the materials used in diesel injection systems is nowadays carried out using Vickers and Rockwell hardness tests. Instrumented indentation extends characterization of component property testing via static and dynamic testing methods. The focus of the investigations is the change in hardening-depth profile plus component homogeneity over the component cross-section. Using differential Martens hardness, evaluation can be via indentation depth as well as the classical material properties.

This testing system facilitates characterization of materials used for our customers' application.
