The specimen grip for ropes

The rope grip can be used for testing tensile specimens that are not dimensionally stable.

The tensile stress on the specimen is reduced by the frictional contact on the load reduction roller. End clamping takes place mechanically via a screw (possibly with increased force), a wedge, or a hydraulic clamping element.

There are five different rope grips in total:

  • Fmax 2.5 kN for non-rigid plastics and textiles
  • Fmax 2.5 kN for metallic materials, plastics and natural fibers
  • Fmax 10 kN - 50 kN for high-strength ropes and yarns
  • Fmax 100 kN for steel and plastics
  • Fmax 100 kN for high-strength ropes and yarns

Advantages, Fmax 2.5 kN

  • Looping the specimen around the load reduction roller ensures gentle clamping without jaw breaks.
  • These grips represent a cost-effective solution. Looping and knotting the specimen eliminates the need for an end-clamping device.

Function description

The rope grips can be used for testing dimensionally unstable tensile specimens.

The closing force is generated via rope friction and knotting or wrapping. The specimen's tensile stress is largely reduced via friction on the load reduction roller.

The specimen is automatically centered on insertion by the predetermined groove in the load reduction roller.

Advantages, Fmax 2.5 kN, metallic materials

  • Looping the specimen around the load reduction roller ensures gentle clamping without jaw breaks.
  • Fast, easy insertion and centering of the specimen is made possible by a guide groove in the load reduction roller.
  • Interchangeable load reduction rollers enable optimum adaptation of the specimen grips to accommodate different specimen materials.
  • If the application changes the jaws can be changed over quickly and easily - no tools required. The jaws are centered automatically.

Function description

The rope grip is a s a one-sided closing grip for tensile tests on ropes, narrow tapes or similar. The jaw inserts for the jaw mountings are permanently guided play free via spring elements in the tensile direction. The jaw mountings are secured via spring force and can be replaced without the need for tools.

The specimen is automatically centered on insertion by the predetermined groove in the load reduction roller.

Advantages, Fmax 10 kN - 50 kN

  • Looping the specimen around the load reduction roller ensures gentle clamping without jaw breaks.
  • Fast, easy insertion and centering of the specimen is made possible by a guide groove in the load reduction roller.
  • Interchangeable load reduction rollers enable optimum adaptation of the specimen grips to accommodate different specimen materials.
  • If the application changes the jaws can be changed over quickly and easily - no tools required. The jaws are centered automatically.
  • The hydraulic clamping ensures precisely defined, reproducible gripping pressure.
  • High gripping forces ensure secure clamping of the specimen. The need for specimen pre-treatment such as coating the ends is eliminated.

Function description, Fmax 10 kN - 50 kN

The specimen is passed around the load reduction roller one or more times. The resulting frictional force reduces the tensile stress before the clamp at the end of the rope sufficiently to avoid jaw breaks.

Clamping can be mechanical or hydraulic.

These rope grips feature modular design to enable optimum adaptation to accommodate the specimen material. They comprise a carrier plate, a clamping system, jaws and load-reduction rollers:

Advantages, Fmax 100 kN

  • Looping the specimen around the load reduction roller ensures gentle clamping without jaw breaks.
  • Fast, easy insertion and centering of the specimen is made possible by a guide groove in the load reduction roller.
  • Interchangeable load reduction rollers enable optimum adaptation of the specimen grips to accommodate different specimen materials.
  • If the application changes the jaws can be changed over quickly and easily - no tools required. The jaws are centered automatically.

Function description

The rope grips can be used for testing dimensionally unstable tensile specimens.

The specimen is wound around the load reduction roller once or several times. The resulting frictional force reduces the tensile stress before the wedge clamping at the end of the specimen to such an extent that jaw breaks are avoided.

  • Large roller diameter for stiff ropes (wires, steel ropes)
  • Small roller diameter for flexible ropes (natural fiber, plastic ropes).

Three different load reduction rollers are available together with various jaw inserts.

The specimen is automatically centered on insertion by the predetermined groove in the load reduction roller.

Advantages, Fmax 100 kN, ropes and yarn

  • Tensile force reduction via single or multiple looping.
  • Optimal clamping via precisely defined and reproducible clamping pressure.
  • Hydraulic end-clamping enables high closing force, thereby eliminating specimen treatment such as end-coating.
  • Interchangeable load reduction rollers for optimum matching to specimen material.
  • Various jaw inserts are available for different specimen materials and diameter ranges.
  • Quick specimen insertion makes these grips suitable for series testing.
