ZwickRoell at the SAE Wearable Injectors and Connected Devices Conference

As the need for reliable on-body injection devices and autoinjectors continues to grow, the ZwickRoell team looks forward to attending the inaugural SAE Wearable Injectors and Connected Devices Conference at The Sheraton Boston Hotel in Boston, MA, September 13-14, 2023.

Below, we briefly introduce our automated testing solutions for wearable injector and autoinjector device testing and highlight the key details for this upcoming event. We hope to see you there!

Testing Solutions for On-Body Delivery Systems and Autoinjectors

Because both on-body delivery systems (OBDS) and autoinjectors are typically used by patients to self-administer medication outside the direct supervision of medical professionals, their safe and reliable operation is of the utmost importance. OBDS differ from autoinjectors in terms of longer injection times, greater injection volume, and higher viscosity of the administered drug. They provide controlled and continuous delivery, while autoinjectors are used for quick administration of a specific dose of medication.

ZwickRoell’s medical device testing team has an extensive background in delivering both semi-automated and automated testing solutions tailored to the unique challenges of autoinjector testing. Our testing systems provide compliant testing using a multi-functional testing machine, equipped with the lightweight robot roboTest N, capable of performing all required test sequences on a single autoinjector specimen.

For a broader look at how to optimize autoinjector testing to boost throughput and reduce risk, please see our whitepaper here.

The ZwickRoell team has gained a lot of experience from automated autoinjector testing and developed a specialized solution for on-body delivery systems.  In the fast-growing market for biotechnological applications, we adapted our semi-automated autoinjector testing systems to create a customized, comprehensive solution for all tests performed in accordance with the ISO 11608-6 (Needle-based injection systems for medical use — Requirements and test methods — Part 6: On-body delivery systems) standard.

Key features of our on-body device testing solutions include:

  • Testing capabilities for actuation force, injection time, injection volume, and needle/cannula length on a single system within a single test sequence.
  • Testing capabilities for the optical and audible signals employed in injection systems.
  • The ability to measure the adhesion forces of adhesive bonding surfaces.

We look forward to discussing this automation testing technology at the inaugural SAE conference. Its modular design allows it to be readily adapted to unique testing processes, while the integrated testXpert software allows for intuitive user management. You can learn more about our automated testing solutions for ISO 11608-5 and 11608-6 here.
