ZwickRoell donates €2000 to The Motor Neurone Disease Association to help fund vital support services and research

ZwickRoell, a leading global supplier of advanced technology materials testing products, which has been operating in the UK for over 40 years, has donated €2,000 to The Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Association.

The €2,000 donation will go towards helping to fund support services, research and raise awareness of the disease.

The MND Association focuses on improving access to care, research and campaigning for those people living with or affected by motor neurone disease in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Motor neurone disease is a fatal, rapidly progressing disease that affects the brain and spinal cord. MND kills a third of people within a year and more than half within two years of diagnosis with the risk of developing the disease now up to 1 in 300 and there is currently no cure.

Denise Davies, Head of Community Fundraising at the MND Association said, “Without the amazing support of organisations like ZwickRoell, the MND Association simply would not be able to provide its vital support services, fund research to find a cure and campaign and raise awareness of MND. Together we are making a real difference for people affected by this devastating disease”.

The donation from ZwickRoell stems from a company initiative called ZwickRoell Runs The World. The initiative occurs annually and has run for 6 consecutive years which has seen the company donate more than €250,000 to charities since 2017. This year’s challenge was to run, walk or hike a total of 180,000km in 60 days. With 1,049 participants made up of staff, customers and suppliers taking part, a total distance of 191,623km was completed which has resulted in €90,000 being donated to multiple charities across the world.

Hannah Craig, UK Service Manager at ZwickRoell took part in this years ZwickRoell Runs The World challenge and nominated the MND Association for a donation.

Hannah said “I nominated the MND Association as I have been a supporter of the charity for four years now. Unfortunately, in 2018 I lost my nan to MND and it was only after her passing that we got the diagnosis as so little is known about this horrible disease. At the moment there is no cure which is why the MND Association are working tirelessly so that we can get to a stage where MND is no longer a life sentence. As a charity they also heavily support the person that gets the diagnosis as well as their family”.

Benno Sadowski, Managing Director of ZwickRoell UK & Ireland said “We are delighted to donate this money to the MND Association and support them in the magnificent work that they do. Welcoming the MND Association to our Xperience Centre today and hearing about how they help people suffering with MND and their families makes you realise how important it is to keep supporting charities such as this”.
